Time and again I speak with clients on the phone to book them in for their will appointment and they say to me, ‘I should warn you, our family dynamics are complicated…’ (or something to that effect). In fact, I did smile to myself as I had been planning this series of articles last night, ready to start on today, and the lovely clients I saw over Zoom this morning said, in relation to some properties they own…. ‘you see, it’s complicated’. It’s a common concern.
Whether it’s children from a previous marriage, estranged family members, foreign assets, multiple properties, an impending divorce… it’s understandable to worry that your situation is ‘unusual’ and may complicate the issue of putting a will in place. I don’t think that there has been anyone, over the last 6+ years, that I have not been able to help because their situation was too complicated. You’d be surprised how ‘normal’ complicated family or financial dynamics are!
Over the next couple of weeks, I will be focusing my articles on some of the scenarios which have been considered complicated by my clients, as I know that it can be hugely comforting to know that somebody else has been through what you’re going through and has achieved a positive outcome.
I hope you enjoy the articles and if you are currently sitting at home worrying about your own ‘complicated’ situation, and perhaps letting it delay you putting a will in place, please do get in touch and I will happily chat things through with you.
